US Responsible for Arabs' Poverty and Opression...?

Someone recently sent me an email:

AN ENGINEERING MASTER PIECE

During the construction phase......Dubai, United Arab Emirates
All finished. Notice the size of the palm trees outside.......... Can you guess what it is ???
Remember, this is in the middle of the desert.... The very HOT desert where temperatures get up to 120 degrees.....

The INSIDE view:

Unbelievable! But true.....It is a self contained Ski Resort

Why is gasoline $3.59 a gallon for regular unleaded??????

So they can ski in the desert, that's why! Are we stupid or what!

So what do you think?

I agree, but not for the reasons you might imagine.

As a believer in the free market, I believe that gas is $3.59 a gallon (or whatever it might be in your area) because Americans continue to buy the stuff. The market (i.e. consumers) actually has the final say on what the price of goods is, by their continuation to purchase goods at the prices the seller offers. Stop buying gas at $3.59, and the price will go down. But this is a lesson for another day.

Why I am really disgusted with this whole thing?

There is this sentiment out there... Arabs and others (even Americans!) that claim that the US is “oppressing” them.

All we hear about is how the US foreign policy keeps Arabs poor and downtrodden.... That RADICAL ISLAM is the Arab’s answer to the oppression of the “Great Satan.”

If the Arabs actually took care of their own, using the vast wealth that America provides by buying their goods (oil), there wouldn’t BE poverty and misery among 90% of the Arab population. Somehow it is OUR fault that they are destitute. Yet the wealth of these Arab nations is held by a few, who then ignore the conditions of their own people.

So they can continue to do things so ridiculous, extravagant and wasteful with the wealth that comes into their countries from the people of America! Yet somehow it is America's fault that there are people living in squalor in the Middle East.

Who is stupid? Those who continue with the "Blame America" rhetoric.

You don't like the conditions you live under, look to your own "leaders."

Don't fly planes into buildings in my country, as a supposed attack on the "decadence of the West!"

Try flying a plane into the artificial ski resort in your own country!!!

THOSE are the people who are OPPRESSING YOU!!
